Golden Retriever Male, 16 Months – Experienced Adult Home Required
We are sadly looking for a suitable new home for our much-loved 16-month-old male Golden Retriever.
He is a lovely, affectionate and playful dog who enjoys being around people and is very good socially with other dogs. This is an extremely difficult decision for our family and is not something we are taking lightly.
Important behavioural information: he has developed resource-guarding behaviour around food and high-value items. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a bite to our daughter. He has also nipped an adult family member on two occasions when an attempt was made to remove a chicken bone from his mouth.
For this reason, he must be rehomed to an adult-only, child-free household with an experienced owner who understands resource guarding and is confident managing a strong young dog.
We are looking for someone who:
• Has genuine experience with resource guarding or similar behavioural issues.
• Can provide a calm, structured and consistent home.
• Is comfortable managing food, chews and other high-value items safely.
• Is willing to continue appropriate behavioural training.
• Can give him the time, patience and supervision he needs.
• Has no children living in the household.
He is otherwise a friendly, affectionate and sociable young dog with many wonderful qualities, and he is excellent with other dogs.
He also has a retained testicle (cryptorchidism). Our vet has advised that castration should be carried out in due course, with the timing to be determined by our veterinary team.
We will be completely transparent with any prospective owner about his history and behavioural needs. We will not consider a home with children, and we would want to have a detailed conversation with anyone interested before considering rehoming.
Our priority is finding the right experienced home, not simply finding him a home quickly.
